The 42-year-old filmmaker, who served as director of photography on the Western, was killed, while director Joel Souza was seriously injured in a devastating incident on the set of the movie in New Mexico.
Hutchins was rushed to hospital via helicopter following the horrific accident, but was later pronounced dead, and her passing was confirmed in a statement from the International Cinematographers Guild.
Meanwhile Souza, 48, was taken to Christus St Vincent’s Regional Medical Centre by ambulance, and has since been discharged.
In a statement on Thursday, a spokesperson for Rust Movies Productions LLC confirmed that production on the film was to be shut down immediately, with no further details on when they would resume.
“We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation,” the statement said.
The producers paid tribute to Hutchins, and sent their “deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones.”
“We will be providing counseling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event,” they added, noting that the “entire cast and crew” have been left “absolutely devastated” by the tragedy.
Shortly after the incident, a spokesperson confirmed production would be halted “for the time being”, but that was clarified in a later statement after Hutchins’ death was confirmed.
The movie had been shooting for two weeks on the 2,000-acre Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico, and Baldwin played an outlaw who goes on the run with his grandson after the teenager accidentally kills another man.
The 30 Rock star has been questioned over the incident, and later released, but officers from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department stated the investigation remains ongoing as witnesses are being interviewed.
The Oscar-nominated actor was reportedly unaware of the ammunition in the prop gun, and was pictured looking distraught following the shooting.
In the photos, Baldwin is seen crying as he speaks on his phone, and is later spotted hunched over and sobbing at the side of the road.
Hutchins previously worked as an investigative journalist in Europe, before she relocated to Los Angeles to concentrate on her film career.
She previously worked on other movies including police drama Blindfire, and the horror flick The Mad Hatter.
