10 Evil Baldur’s Gate 3 Decisions That Are Easy To Miss

While Baldur’s Gate 3 has quite a few obvious decisions for an evil playthrough throughout, there are a ton of them that players might not even know are an option. Some of these decisions are simply evil for evil’s sake and don’t offer any clear rewards, or require playing as specific races to unlock unique evil dialogue choices. There’s no shortage of evil opportunities throughout Baldur’s Gate 3, from the Grove early in Act One all the way to the Lower City.

Whether it’s the Dark Urge, an evil Origin character, or a built-from-scratch ne’er-do-well, anyone attempting a truly evil playthrough will want to keep these decisions in mind for their next run. Here’s a look at easy-to-miss evil decisions in Baldur’s Gate 3, and some tips on how not to miss them in the next playthrough.

10

Pay Up Barth!

Grief Is Good, But Gold Is Better

Players will find Barth in the Hollow after he was pickpocketed by Meli, triggering the “Return the Locket” quest. A few unique dialogue options are made available, but first, players need to get super evil and allow Arabella to be bitten by the snake and die. Then, when Barth accuses Meli of stealing his locket, letting Meli escape gives players the option to intimidate him with a threat that he might share the same fate as Arabella, which will make him give up the locket right away.

Turns out this locket belonged to Barth’s deceased mother, and while it would be the right thing to do to simply give it back, why not make him pay for it? Barth will not like this, but will begrudgingly hand over a reward.

Let Aradin Knock Out Zevlor

Take Zevlor’s Fancy Gloves While You’re At It

During the encounter at the Druid’s Grove gate entrance, players will find out that Aradin was on a mission to find the Nightsong at the Goblin’s Camp, but things didn’t work out the way he planned. Zevlor and Aradin will get into a little tiff afterward, once the party has entered through the gate. Players might not realize it, but Zevlor is wearing a very nice pair of gloves, Hellrider’s Pride
, that they would otherwise access by completing the “Investigate Khaga” or “Kill Khaga” quests. However, it’s possible to get Aradin to punch Zevlor first during their argument, knocking Zevlor out.

While he’s out, players can steal all of Zevlor’s belongings, including the aforementioned gloves. Siding with Aradin feels pretty evil considering he’s really out for money in the end, eventually encouraging players to hand over Nightsong to Lorroakon for a cash reward.

Laugh At Elfrin

Duergar Dwarves Can Be Pretty Cruel

As players make their way down into Auntie Ethel’s lair, they will probably notice a petrified dwarf named Elfrin. It’s actually possible to save the various NPCs in this room by killing Auntie Ethel outright. However, an interesting evil decision can be made after returning to Elfrin after he realizes he is no longer petrified. He fears he has been afflicted by the Bite.

Elfrin isn’t afflicted with the Bite, or Laduguer’s Bite as the gold dwarves call it, and the side effects he was feeling were part of Auntie Ethel’s curse.

A unique duergar dialogue allows players to laugh at him and revel in his panic. After he decries the duergar and spouts some pretty racist insults, the player can laugh even harder at him, causing him to run off thinking he is doomed. Or, even worse, players can tell them they know how to cure the disease and Elfrin will ask them for their help. Simply reply, “No,” or egg him on even more, and he’ll leave in a huff, assuming he’s not long for this world.

Build Your Kuo-Toa Army

Down With BOOAL, All Hail Mahkloompah!

In the Underdark, the Kuo-Toa are being deceived by a trickster Redcap impostor named BOOOAL into thinking he is an all-powerful deity. After some investigating, it becomes clear he’s full of it and players will need to take him on without turning the rest of the Kuo-Toa hostile.

10 Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Quests You Probably Missed

Baldur’s Gate 3 is absolutely packed with quests large and small, and there are likely plenty of great ones players accidentally missed out on.

Once he’s defeated, the player will be deemed the Mahkloompah by the Kuo-Toa and can be worshiped as their new deity in BOOOAL’s place. Speaking to Pooldripp the Zealous after doing so will give the player a unique option to have the Kuo-Toa minions go out and build an army to spread the player’s name throughout the land. Aside from keeping an entire group of mindless fish monsters subservient to the player’s cause, there are no real benefits of this evil decision.

6

Give The Noblestalk To Baelen Bonecloak

There’s A Reason His Wife Likes Him Stupid

Baelen Bonecloak is trapped in a field of Bibberbang, and can be found as part of the “Find the Mushroom Picker” quest if players have discovered the Myconid colony already. Baelen’s wife, Derryth, will be pretty adamant about finding a rare item, Noblestalk, which is located in the Bibberbang field where players initially found and potentially saved Baelen in BG3. Players can do a variety of things with Noblestalk, but none of them are quite as evil as giving it to Baelen.

All Baldur’s Gate 3 News We Expect In 2025

2025 promises to be another banner year for Baldur’s Gate 3, but will it be the last hurrah for new content in Larian Studios’ acclaimed RPG?

If players take the time to talk to Derryth and the couple’s Deep Rothe, they’ll discover that Baelen was an abusive alcoholic for the first 70 years of their marriage. She gave him some Wyvern Toxin in his porridge one morning, and that is how he became the dullard that players know and love. The Noblestalk restores his bad temper and dooms Derryth and the Deep Rothe to a life of abuse.

Steal Thulla’s Boots

Let Her Suffer And Betray The Duergar

To get to the Grymforge, players will need to gain access to the duergar boats. Players will be tasked by a duergar named Gekh Coal on the shore with retrieving Sargeant Thrimm’s Boots of Speed, which are being held by Thulla in the Myconid Colony. Engaging in dialogue with Thulla will allow players to realize she is weak and vulnerable, and they can literally take the boots right off of her, letting her die a slow and painful death from duergar poison.

Returning those boots to Coal will open up access to the Grymforge. As players pass a duergar ship on their way across the abyss, the duergar will board the player’s ship and a dialogue option will allow them to push the captain into the water and trigger an encounter with the remaining crew.

4

Sacrifice Jaheira At Minsc’s Hand

Go For The Eyes, Boo!

This task is among the most evil in the game, given Jaheira and Minsc’s long history in the franchise. Playing as the Dark Urge and choosing to become the Bhaalspawn will be a big no-no for both Minsc and Jaheira, and they will leave the party and the Temple of Bhaal dejected and heartbroken, but also ready to throw down with all the Harpers outside the Temple entrance.

All Choices In Baldur’s Gate 3 That Cause Companions To Permanently Leave the Party

Baldur’s Gate 3 companions have their own agendas to an extent, and certain choices you can make will result in companions abandoning the party.

However, because Minsc has been infected with a tadpole and is under the influence of the Absolute, it’s possible to force Minsc to kill Jaheira using Illithid powers and passing a Wisdom Check (DC 25). After slaughtering her, Minsc will go into a fit of rage, and if players use speak with dead on his corpse, he’ll be screaming out for his pet hamster, Boo.

3

Torture The Dying Stone Lord Thug

Don’t Let Orin Distract From Your Evil Ways

Dying Stone Lord Thug from BG3

The Dying Stone Lord Thug can be found on the shore of the River Chionthar, fading fast. Depending on the order in which players travel through Act Three, it’s possible that this dying thug is actually one of Orin’s disguises that she uses to test and trick the player and gauge their interest in evil deeds. Players will know if it’s Orin if the dying thug seemingly starts to enjoy his pain and suffering.

Playing as the Dark Urge will give a unique choice here: surrender to the urge and “Slice him. Bleed him. Eviscerate him.” Playing as any other character will still give the option to prod his wounds or watch him suffer. Either one of these choices will reveal the dying thug as Orin.

2

Have Orin Sacrifice Yenna

Child Sacrifice Is About As Evil As It Gets

As part of Act Three, Orin will automatically take a party member captive, unless none of the possible kidnapping companions are at camp when she decides to take someone. In this case, she will actually take Yenna, the poor starving girl that is first encountered when entering Rivington. Because Yenna has nowhere else to go, she ends up at the campsite with her kitty, Grub, where Orin can kidnap Yenna and murder her cat.

Once players reach the sacrificial chamber, there are options to convince Orin not to go through with it, considering Bhaal really wants her to have it out with the Dark Urge. However, players can let her sacrifice the young girl instead. It’s also possible for Orin to be disguised as Lae’zel, who will try to trick players into letting her cut Yenna’s throat.

1

Give Scratch Back To His Owner

A Good Boy Deserves Better

Perhaps the most evil decision in all of Baldur’s Gate 3 is to return the loyal companion, Scratch, to his original owner. Once players reach Rivington, they’ll find a kennel outside the Sword Coast Couriers building with a bunch of dogs in cages that are used to deliver letters. It turns out that Angry Mar’hyah, Scratch’s original owner, is not only abusive towards these animals, but hellbent on reclaiming the Sword Coast Couriers property (i.e. Scratch).

Returning Scratch to Mar’hyah is perhaps the most evil choice one could make, damning Scratch to a life of abuse and completely betraying the party’s most loyal companion. Of all the evil decisions in Baldur’s Gate 3 that players are likely to miss, this is one choice they probably should pass on, no matter how evil they want to be.
