Spooky season is officially upon us, which means the Halloween-themed TV shows and movies are coming. This week starts us strong with The Haunting of Bly Manor, a new horror movie starring Joey King called The Lie, and—scariest of all—the vice presidential debate.

Sunday, October 4
A Holly Dolly Christmas: Dolly Parton’s first Christmas album in 30 years is out and features collaborations with Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon, Michael Buble, Billy Ray Cyrus, and her brother Randy. Stream here.
First Ladies: A new docuseries about First Ladies, the real legends of any presidency. 10 p.m. ET on CNN
The Good Lord Bird: Ethan Hawke plays abolitionist John Brown in this explosive new series from Blumhouse Television. It’s based on the novel of the same name by James McBride and costars Joshua Caleb Johnson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, and Daveed Diggs. (Diggs plays Frederick Douglass, and I’m already predicting a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Emmys.) 9 p.m. ET on Showtime
Monday, October 5
Soulmates: A new anthology series that, according to a press release, “is set 15 years into the future, when science has made a discovery that changes the lives of everyone on the planet: a test that unequivocally tells you who your soulmate is.” 10 p.m. ET on AMC
Tuesday, October 6
The Lie: Here is the official synopsis for this movie: “When their teenaged daughter confesses to impulsively killing her best friend, two desperate parents attempt to cover up the horrific crime, leading them into a complicated web of lies and deception.” Streaming on Prime Video

Vice Presidential Debate: Kamala Harris and Mike Pence face off in the first VP debate. 9 p.m. ET on various platforms
Thursday, October 8
Supernatural: The last seven episodes of Supernatural are here, the first airing tonight. 8 p.m. ET on The CW
Sarah Dooley, “When You’re Gone”: The Brooklyn-based musician’s new single drops today. Her album, Is This Heartbreak?, is out October 23. “I didn’t sit down to write an album about heartbreak. I wrote the songs on the album one by one as I experienced things and people, in order to reflect on them and process them and make something out of the feelings,” says Dooley about the record.
