Thanks mostly in part to the coronavirus pandemic direct-to-consumer sales of both necessity and self-care, including meal delivery services, milk, cannabis-infused drinks and more have surged.
As the idea that food is medicine has become mainstream, and concerns over the impact of food production on climate change have grown, there’s been an increase in interest around plant-based diets. Consumers are increasingly seeking out plant-based alternatives, with nearly one in four Americans (23%) reporting they ate less meat in 2019 than in the previous year. Still, plant-based meat companies like Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods have faced increasing questions about just how much healthier (if at all) their alternatives are for the people and the planet.
Those questions haven’t stopped consumers from scooping up the brand’s products, though. In early August, the company reported that quarterly retail sales had nearly tripled to about $90 million.
The e-commerce platform is one of the brand’s efforts to increase accessibility and affordability of plant-based meat products. It comes in addition to the company’s retail presence in more than 26,000 outlets across the U.S., including Target
