Ottawa Charge Defeat Montreal Victoire 3-1 – The Hockey Writers PWHL Latest News, Analysis & More

The Ottawa Charge hosted the Montreal Victoire for their fifth matchup of the 2024-25 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. With both teams coming off a loss, they were both vying to get back into the win column. The Charge took the victory, 3-1. This was also Ottawa’s first win against Montreal this season.

Nine minutes into the first period, the Charge opened the scoring for the two teams. Emily Clark was able to recover the puck from the Victoire as they tried to get it out of the Charge’s offensive zone. She sent a pass to Stephanie Markowski in front of the net. From the side of the post, she sent a shot to score her first goal of her PWHL season.
12:54 into the first, the first penalty was called. Dara Grieg took a seat and Ottawa went on their first power play. The Victoire were able to kill the penalty and Montreal returned to full strength until the end of the period.
Six minutes into the second period, the Charge received their first penalty. Gabbie Hughes sat for slashing and the Victoire went on the extra player advantage. They made quick work of capitalizing on their opportunity. Claire Dalton had the puck behind the net. She sent a pass to Marie-Philip Poulin, who missed the net. Luckily, Laura Stacey was there to direct the puck in to tie up the game.
Just nine minutes later, the Charge were able to increase their lead. Aneta Tejralova sent a pass to Mannon McMahon. She made a drive towards the net with Clark, a 2-on-1. She passed to Clark as they got closer to the net. She took the shot and sent the puck into the back of Ann-Renee Desbiens’ net. The second came to a close with the Charge up by one once more.
Seven minutes into the third, the Victoire earned their second penalty of the game. Mariah Keopple sat for hooking and the Charge went on the extra woman advantage once more. They were unable to capitalize, and shortly went off on their own penalty. Ronja Savolainen sat for boarding and the Victoire tried to make a goal happen with the 5-on-4, but it just didn’t come to be. The Victoire were desperate to tie the game. They pulled Desbiens with two minutes left. Although they tried to make a scoring attempt, Clark knocked the puck loose and sent it across the ice and into the empty net. With two goals and one assist, Clark earned a point on each of the goals this game to help give the Charge the win.
Next Up
The Victoire will be back home on Tuesday, Feb. 25 to host the Toronto Sceptres. The Charge will stay at home and host the New York Sirens on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
