How Rockers Celebrated Super Bowl Weekend – Photos + More

Just like many of us, there were a number of rockers tuned into the Super Bowl on Sunday and they too were taking over social media with their commentary on the game, the halftime show and even showing off some of their big game party plans.

The game itself turned into 40-22 route with the Philadelphia Eagles knocking off the two-time defending Super Bowl champs the Kansas City Chiefs, while rapper Kendrick Lamar was the talk of social media with his halftime performance.

So what did the rock and metal world have to say about the Super Bowl and everything that comes with it? Have a look below.

We’re Pre-Gaming

One big part of Super Bowl Sunday is the get-together. How are you going to watch the game and what is the party like? Attila‘s Chris Fronzak had a Shrek-themed gathering, while Charred Walls of the Damned’s Richard Christy was feasting on some Kansas City BBQ in honor of the Chiefs being back in the Super Bowl.

The members of Blink-182 actually traveled to New Orleans for the big game, while Bam Margera had a gathering with Hulk Hogan in Clearwater.

As for who was cheering for what team, both Sevendust‘s Lajon Witherspoon and Richard Christy both showed off their Chiefs gear in advance of the game. Meanwhile, Hatebreed‘s Jamey Jasta was trying to get a line from fans on which prop bets would be the best to get in on.

Game Time

As for the game itself, it wasn’t much of a game as the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the first half then pulled away in the second half while the Kansas City Chiefs tried to mount a late comeback.

“Keep it 100 Philly. Football can ALWAYS Flip on you…KC still dangerous,” remarked Living Colour‘s Vernon Reid at one point, while later bemoaning, “40… to 6?!”

“I don’t know who is gonna win the superbowl tonight but i know whoever does the city of Philadelphia is going to suffer for it,” All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte commented.

“Most boring #SuperBowlLIX I’ve ever watched,” stated Attila’s Chris Fronzak. “I was hoping for a close game but DAMN lol.”

KISSTommy Thayer meanwhile offered congratulatory praise for the winning Eagles team, while Journey‘s Neal Schon pondered, “How much $$$ do you think was lost today gambling on Kansas City Chiefs?”

About Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime Show

Given that we’re taking a look at the posts of rock and metal musicians, there will always be commentary of why rock and metal are no longer prominent at the Super Bowl.

“The halftime show should have been Metallica,” quipped All That Remains’ Phil Labonte. “When are they going to bring Rock/Metal to the superbowl ? Metallica, AC/DC etc,” asked Fear Factory‘s Dino Cazares, who later clarified, “I’m not saying I don’t like Kendrick Lamar, I actually like him very much but I just feel his Half Time Show was boring. That’s why I suggested something more exciting like some Rock & Metal bands mix it up, it doesn’t have to be just commercial artists.”

Given the location of the Super Bowl, Bad WolvesDoc Coyle added, “Down, Acid Bath, Goatwhore, and Eyehategod should be playing the New Orleans Super Bowl.”

As for Kendrick Lamar’s performance, Bad Wolves’ Doc Coyle responded with a well thought out comment of why the rapper’s show might not have hit the mark with everyone.

“I love Kendrick, but I feel like his songs might go over a lot of people’s heads if you aren’t already a fan. He’s very subversive and wonder if more tent pole pop artists work a little better with events like this. He might be the best live rap performer, but I like it when he goes super edgy in these performances I feel like he probably has to dial it back to appeal to a big audience like this. It was fine. But I wasn’t blown away,” stated Coyle, who also asked whether or not the rapper was trying to bring bell bottoms back.

The Devil Wears Prada‘s Jeremy DePoyster commented on one of Kendrick’s guests, humorously noting, “Wellness check on my wife (sza just sang at the Super Bowl).”

Meanwhile, Stryper‘s Michael Sweet stated that the Kendrick performance made him appreciate the all-timer great Super Bowl halftime of Prince even more.
