Alana Armstrong murder investigation: CCTV released after fatal e-bike hit-and-run

Murder detectives have released a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to after a fatal hit-and-run involving an e-bike in Derbyshire.

Mother-of-one Alana Armstrong, 25, died at the scene in the village of Pleasley on Tuesday evening.

She was riding pillion when the e-bike was rammed by a dark-coloured 4×4, believed to be a Land Rover Discovery, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, while the rider, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and had his leg amputated below the knee.

A CCTV image has been released showing a woman who police believe “has vital information in relation to the murder of Alana Armstrong”.

The woman was pictured outside The White Swan public house, in Meden Square, Pleasley, just before 8pm.

Police – who have launched a murder investigation – said the collision happened around 8pm in Batley Lane in the same village, which is or the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

A 4×4 followed two e-bikes before ramming one of them, the car then drove off without stopping.

Chief superintendent Dave Kirby from Derbyshire police said Ms Armstrong, from nearby Tibshelf, was a mother to a six-year-old boy.

“Her little boy, along with her wider family, will never get the chance to see her again, hug her again, spend Christmas together, or celebrate all those milestones,” he said.

Police also revealed the route the vehicle took through the village.

Officers said the Land Rover Discovery had pursued two e-bikes before the collision.

It then drove off up Batley Lane – onto Rowthorne Lane – and the last known sighting of it was at this junction, turning right onto the A617 towards New Houghton.

Ch Sup Kirby also issued an appeal for information: “We know that there were two people in the Land Rover Discovery, that was manufactured between 2004 and 2009… a man driving the vehicle and another person in the passenger seat.

“Since Tuesday a team of detectives have been working non-stop, searching the site where Alana was killed, conducting house-to-house enquiries, and scouring CCTV in the area.

“We have already received a significant amount of information from the public. I know that there is more information out – and there are people who know who the person responsible is.”

Two people arrested in connection with the incident have now been released without charge – and have been discounted from the investigation.
